Steel, model-10″h x 7″w x 12″l
Convergent Lines in Space is a conceptual model for a larger sculpture that seeks to investigate if creating space through minimal line and randomness is the heart of creativity and architecture in our society. The simple but strong lines of this piece cut across themselves and the viewer’s perspective, activating the environment and space in which it resides. Pinned at convenient angles, the use of these simple connections keeps the form flowing while still giving attention to the connections that make this dramatic form. Connections are being championed here, as they should be in all things. The transition from each length to another is representative of the varied facets of life experiences, where the journey and the destination make each other important.
Proposed(4.5′ h x 4′ w x 6.5′ l) As a Large scale sculpture this piece creates an open air space to walk through that invites the viewer to sit upon, lean with or even simply walk around. This allows the location and the environment that surrounds it to become the focal point. Humbling itself to the surroundings the sculpture seeks to instill a pause in the viewer’s day, allowing the space and spaces of life to be appreciated, felt and understood.
As a model this piece activates the viewer and its environment by encouraging participation in simply setting the piece upon its ‘base’ and realizing that it has no true bottom. This was a very intentional and integral part of how the piece was created and interacts with the world around it. A waxed and painted surface has given it a handmade feel that instills a sense of craftsmanship and quality, a thoughtful centerpiece.
